While the art of War is a well-known work, its creator sun Tzu remains a mystery. What is known about sun Tzu is that he was a Chinese military strategist, General and philosopher who lived in the Spring and autumn period of ancient China (approximately 771 to 476 BC). ancient Chinese records differ about his place of birth The Spring and autumn annals (state records of the Zhou dynasty) state that he was a native of qi; shiji (records of the Grand historian) state that he was a native of qu. Both, however, agree that he was a military General of King ho-lu of Wu. The name sun Tzu is also not his birth name but a title meaning "master sun"; his birth name was likely sun Wu.
